With guests fawning over the heartfelt personal food stories and authentic Eastern European dishes of his last go-round in the Frame kitchen, our own Lithuanian-born editorial director (and former Detroit Free Press food critic) Mark Kurlyandchik is bringing back the cold borscht that had everyone raving… alongside a full menu of traditional Lithuanian staples you won’t find anywhere else in Michigan.

Imagine yourself ambling down the cobblestone streets of Vilnius, Lithuania’s charming cobblestoned capital where Mark was born. For one special night, we’re transforming the candlelit Frame dining room into one of the medieval city’s ancient cellars to celebrate a classic Lithuanian spread.

This traditional heritage table includes all the staples: Hot and crunchy fried black bread dripping with melted cheese sauce and fresh garlic; a chaser of fermented bread soda to wash it down; chilled beet buttermilk soup and a side of hot garlic-dill potatoes; cepeliniai — the Lithuanian national dish of grated potato dumplings stuffed with pork and beef — slathered in sour cream and bacon cracklings; and a poppy seed curd cheese chocolate treat inspired by Lithuania’s most famous candy bars.

Frame beverage gurus Diego Aliste and Adam Accivatti will have all the Baltic-style lager, fortified mead, and Eastern European-inspired cocktails to appropriately pair for this gorgeously rare feast.
