Bonsai and Botanical Cocktails
Chef Nick George
by frame’s mixtress
the patio @ frame
For the latest in our workshop series, we’ve teamed up with Chef Nick George of Dr. Sushi and frame’s mixtress Jaz’min Weaver to bring you an outdoor Bonsai and Botanical Cocktail September workshop, perfect for both learning and imbibing and soaking up the outside air.
Plan on Jaz’min starting the evening off with a botanical forward welcome cocktail as Chef Nick will be taking the lead in this 2-hour hands-on workshop on the patio@frame, teaching us to train and style coniferous bonsai trees (pine, spruce, yew) from young native Michigan trees.
Nick will cover bonsai basics including proper care, potting, styling, pruning, wiring, and a brief history of the art with bonsai sheers in hand.
frame (academy) students will come away from this workshop laden with new knowledge, their very own bonsai tree in a pot to nurture at home, and a few lessons on inner peace and symbols.
Please bring your own gardening gloves and pruning shears if you have them.
We will have everything else ready for you. Socially distanced, of course.
6:30pm on the patio@frame
$83 per person + tax and service fee
This experience is limited to 20 guests
Welcome cocktail by frame’s Jaz’min Weaver, light snacks from the frame kitchen, and your very own bonsai tree to take home and nurture. Please note that repotting in September can stress the tree roots out, so in this class, we will be cutting the plastic pot in preparation for a spring repotting.
A curated a-la-carte botanical forward cocktail menu for imbibing while you work by frame’s mixtress Jazmine Weaver.

What are people saying?
“Tried out frame as part of the ‘grandma’s basement series’ with Chef James (Mabel Gray) and Chef John (Grey Ghost). Our Italian Family Dinner was delicious! Enjoyed every course (which kept coming). Best meatballs I’ve ever had!! Love the idea of home Cookin with a little flare, shared Family style with strangers. A wonderful evening!”

“The vibe at the Frame dinners also reflected the personalities of the chefs, who were able to interact with guests and offer stories about their food memories while cooking rustic dishes without the same expectations that come with their respective restaurants. The food was predictably great and unpretentious, but the series also highlighted the growing importance of personality and storytelling to the modern dining experience.”
