Art of the Cocktail Garnish
Roger James Fruin
It’s in our nature at frame to notice the details. But also bring to your attention the ones you perhaps didn’t know existed.
Meet: The Art of The Cocktail Garnish by frame(maker) Roger James Fruin of Detroit’s Barda.
The way a cocktail is presented to us is a critical component of the drinking experience: 0ur senses take in the sights, smells, sounds, and feel of the process.
Roger calls it the “cocktail’s handshake”… and we’re obsessed at thought of working with fire, learning how to properly torch citrus, and master the art of cutting designs with professional bartending sheers.
Neither symphonic nor voguish – but rather, a mesmerizing synthesis of both.
Oh, and did we mention we drink as well as learn the art of the garnish.

What are people saying?
“Tried out frame as part of the ‘grandma’s basement series’ with Chef James (Mabel Gray) and Chef John (Grey Ghost). Our Italian Family Dinner was delicious! Enjoyed every course (which kept coming). Best meatballs I’ve ever had!! Love the idea of home Cookin with a little flare, shared Family style with strangers. A wonderful evening!”

“The vibe at the Frame dinners also reflected the personalities of the chefs, who were able to interact with guests and offer stories about their food memories while cooking rustic dishes without the same expectations that come with their respective restaurants. The food was predictably great and unpretentious, but the series also highlighted the growing importance of personality and storytelling to the modern dining experience.”
