An Introduction to Fungi
Detroit Mushroom Company
the open-air tent @ frame
Welcome kids to the Kingdom of Fungi. A wild, fascinating place where we not only seek out getting our hands in the dirt but actively reward it. On our mission to learn about everything between the kitchen and bar we’ve decided to take a step backward to zero in our latest obsession; mushrooms.
The fungi have a place in nearly all of our favorite cuisines and are still so commonly misunderstood.
Falling in love is much like a mushroom, you never know if it’s the real thing until it’s too late.
To help protect us from heartbreak (and keep our bellies full), we welcome Detroit Mushroom Company, an organic growing facility born in 2013 out of entirely recycled and reclaimed materials.
In our two hours together we will study the common + unique varieties of shrooms we encounter in the culinary sphere as well as break down the process of growing our very own fungi. Hint: you’ll go home with your very own mushroom starter kit ~ getting you halfway to growing at home! And of course, eat some rather lovely mushroom dishes coming out of the frame kitchen…
Each workstation will be socially distanced and adhere to our response plan that includes every measure of protocol on workplace infection-control practice and health and safety training.

What are people saying?
“Tried out frame as part of the ‘grandma’s basement series’ with Chef James (Mabel Gray) and Chef John (Grey Ghost). Our Italian Family Dinner was delicious! Enjoyed every course (which kept coming). Best meatballs I’ve ever had!! Love the idea of home Cookin with a little flare, shared Family style with strangers. A wonderful evening!”

“The vibe at the Frame dinners also reflected the personalities of the chefs, who were able to interact with guests and offer stories about their food memories while cooking rustic dishes without the same expectations that come with their respective restaurants. The food was predictably great and unpretentious, but the series also highlighted the growing importance of personality and storytelling to the modern dining experience.”
