She’s a “Little Bit Country.” And He’s a “Little Bit Rock ‘n Roll. Chef Jennifer Jackson is from Georgia, growing up on Dolly Parton with a love for her Southern heritage. Chef Justin Tootla is half Indian and from Detroit. Mash-up the Sunday childhood staples from these two cuisines and we’ve got a family dinner at frame spanning two rock-star chef’s upbringings…..Think Potato Samoosa with Red Eye Gravy, Fried Butter Chicken, Bunny Chow with Curry and Cornbread and Carolina Gold Biryani with Sea Island Peas. Since moving on from their family homes, Jennifer and Justin have carved out quite the incredible careers for themselves. Training together at CIA and working under the tutelage of kitchens from the likes of Le Bernardin in NYC and Chez Panisse in San Francisco, Detroit called their names…and were glad they picked up the phone as this wildly creative couple was recently named one of Food & Wine Magazine’s 2018 Restaurants of the Year, for Voyager in Ferndale, where they supremely reign the kitchen.
